OpenAI Commits $50M to AI Research and Education Through ...
OpenAI and Anthropic are actively targeting college students with their latest AI education initiatives. OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Plus will be free for U.S. and Canadian college students through May, providing them with enhanced access to its AI capabilities. This move aims to support students in their academic pursuits by offering advanced tools for learning and problem-solving.
On the other hand, Anthropic introduced Claude for Education, a specialized version of its chatbot designed specifically for college students. Claude for Education features a "learning mode" that focuses on guiding students' reasoning rather than simply providing answers. Anthropic has also secured university-wide access agreements with institutions such as Northeastern University, Champlain College, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. The partnership with Northeastern University alone will grant access to Claude for 50,000 students, faculty, and staff across 13 global campuses.
These initiatives highlight the growing competition between OpenAI and Anthropic in the education sector, as both companies strive to make their AI tools more accessible and beneficial for students.
