Meta has recently updated its privacy policy regarding the Ray-Ban smart glasses, significantly increasing the amount of data collected by default to bolster its AI capabilities. Here are the key changes:

  • Voice Recordings: Voice recordings are now stored by default when using Meta AI. These recordings are used to improve Meta products. The option to disable voice recording storage has been removed, but users can manually delete recordings in the settings.
  • Camera Use: The "camera use" setting for Meta AI is now enabled by default. This means that unless "Hey Meta" is turned off, the camera use feature is always active.
  • Photos and Videos: Photos and videos taken with the built-in camera are stored on a connected smartphone and are not used by Meta for training unless they are used by a Meta product. If cloud processing is turned on or if media is sent to Meta's servers, it can be used to improve Meta's services.
  • Manual Controls: To ensure that Meta isn't collecting excessive data, users can turn off Meta AI entirely on the Ray-Ban glasses and use manual controls for snapping photos and videos.

These changes mean that if you use voice commands like "Hey Meta, record a video," Meta will record the voice command, store the recording, and keep an audio transcript of it by default. This feature cannot be turned off, but you can delete interactions anytime in the settings.

For more detailed information, you can refer to Meta's privacy policy.
